The Sony FE Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS macro II produced quite impressive resolution figures in our MTF lab. The center quality is excellent throughout the zoom range from f/4 to f/8. This also applies to the broader center zone at 70mm and 135mm, but there's a drop at 200mm down to very good results. The outer image field is generally good to
The Sony FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS ($1,499.99) is a telephoto zoom lens for Sony's full-frame mirrorless camera system. A 70-200mm zoom is the go-to lens of many an event shooter, and this is a great
The build quality is very good albeit a touch below e.g. the FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS. The biggest difference between those two is that the FE 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G OSS extends quite a bit (using a duo-cam system) when zooming towards the long end of the range. However, there's no wobbling whatsoever and the control rings operate smoothly.
Even though I mostly shoot landscape, seascape, Milky Way nightscape, and flower/macro photography, this lens adds to my range of lenses (Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM, Sony FE 24mm F1.4 GM, Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM II, Sony FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS) along with my Sony a7R III and a7 III for different perspectives and purposes.
Verdict. The Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS delivers a classic telephoto zoom range, making it highly versatile for everything from weddings and events to sports and wildlife photography. Naturally, it’s an f/stop slower than 70-200mm f/2.8 ‘trinity’ zooms but the upside is a saving in weight and cost, at least compared with Sony’s own
The Sony E 70-350mm F4.5-6.3 G OSS is one of the only native telephoto zoom lenses for Sony's E-mount cropped-sensor mirrorless cameras. Before its release, fans of the Sony APS-C system would have had to use much bigger, more expensive full-frame FE zooms or turn to third-party offerings.
Sony has announced the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II, a redesigned replacement for one of the core pro-grade lenses in the E-mount lineup. The Mark II is built around two pairs of XD 'Extreme Dynamic' linear motors driving its two focus groups, rather than the mixture of linear motor and ring-type motor used in the older version.
Image Quality Differences: Sony FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS vs. FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS. The FE 70-200mm f/2.8 GM OSS is sharper than the FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS in most direct aperture comparisons and shows less lateral CA overall. As can be expected from a wider aperture lens, the f/2.8 lens has less peripheral shading at f/4 than the f/4 lens has
The Sony FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II has a tough act to follow. We were mostly impressed by the original FE 70-200mm f/4 G OSS, with a couple of reservations. It had good glass, fast autofocus, decent optical image stabilization and up-market handling exotica. What’s not to love?
The Sony FE 70-200mm f/4.0 G OSS Lens is a full-frame E-mount lens with a short to medium telephoto zoom range with an equivalent focal length of 105-300mm on APS-C cameras. It features a constant aperture of f/4.0 for good low-light capabilities at any focal length and smooth out-of-focus elements. This makes it useful for portraits and sports
