A 24-105 Comparison. By Roger Cicala. Published March 9, 2014. SHARE TWEET. Sigma has been releasing one great lens after another for a while now. Some, like the 35mm f/1.4 and 18-35mm f/1.8 zoom, have created feeding frenzies soon after (or even before) their release. Others, like the 24-105 f/4 OS, haven’t created a whole lot of fuss.
Headline features. 24-70mm focal length; constant f/4 maximum aperture. Macro mode with 0.7x magnification. 'Hybrid IS' optical image stabilization - 4 stops for normal shooting, 2.5 stops for macro. Dust- and splash-proof design. EF mount for APS-C and full frame Canon SLRs (and EOS M via Mount adapter EF-EOS M)
The Sigma lenses do not suffer from “creeping”, shifting of the zoom if the lens hangs vertically. Our Canon test model definitely suffered from that. Both the zoom ring and the focus ring of the Sigma 24-105 mm Art are perfect muted. The Sigma is heavier, larger and has a larger filter size than the Canon.
Here's a lens filter size chart for Pentax lenses. No filter thread: SMC Pentax-F 24-50mm F4: 58mm: Polarizer Canon has release new firmware for the Canon EOS
If it wasn't for the size and weight of the S1R/24-105mm combination, the autofocus response would make you think you were handling an APS-C or MFT camera rather than a full frame mirrorless model. For speed and responsiveness, the Panasonic S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS feels like a good match for rival mirrorless 24-105mm lenses from Sony and Canon.
The petal-shaped hoods mount bayonet-style on the outer rim of the lens barrel. The size for this lens is 83mm, not the filter diameter (77mm) Any of Canon's 83mm hoods will fit, but to avoid vignetting you need the one designed specifically for your RF 24-105. As Steven wrote, the 83mm hood for 24-105 zooms is the EW-83N.
The Canon RF lens mount is an interchangeable- lens mount developed by Canon for its full-frame mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras, and featured first by the EOS R, followed by the EOS RP. [3] [4] [5] The RF mount was announced in September 2018. [6] [7] In May 2022, Canon announced APS-C EOS R cameras (the EOS R10 and EOS R7) and RF-S
The Sigma 24-105mm ƒ/4 DG OS HSM “A” is currently available in Canon-mount for $899 and ships with a bayonet-style, petal-shaped lens hood, front and rear caps and a soft case.
The Lumix S 24-105 mm F4 Macro OIS is a hefty lens. It fits well with the somewhat hefty S cameras, and the combination sits nicely in the hand. It’s 118 mm long, 84 mm thick, and it weighs 680 grams. The filter size is 77 mm.
Anyone using a polariser that doesn't suffer from this with the 24-105? It worked fine on my Canon 17-40 and 24-105, but is causing an issue on the Sony. Thanks, Nigel. The problem, obviously, is the thickness of the polarizer. How many mm thick is the B&W? It might be possible to find a thinner model.
